Where to start with Alexandra? Well, she is an artist, the gifted kind. Known primarily as a brilliant soprano opera singer and charismatic performer, Alexandra first emerged onto the scene as a piano soloist at age 13, winning a national piano contest in her native country of Ukraine. In recent years, Alexandra has been unveiling herself as a composer and songwriter, fascinating the Icelandic population with beautifully crafted music and alluring motifs.
Alexandra made her opera debut in The Kiev Music Theater of Opera and Ballet when she was 18 years old, singing the role of Ivasik Telesik. Before settling in Iceland in 2003, she performed as a soloist at opera houses in Ukraine for a couple of years with great success and was chosen the best new opera voice in Ukraine in 2002, earning her the title “The New Name of Ukraine”, that same year winning an international opera competition in Rhodes, Greece, as well as earning her Masters degree in opera singing at The Odessa Music Academy, from where she graduated with honors.
Alexandra has produced, art directed and sung roles in numerous opera and musical productions in Iceland over the last 10 years, including “La Traviata”, “The Phantom of the Opera” and “The Poet and the Bishop‘s Daughter”, for which she composed the music and sang the lead role. In this time she has published 4 albums, “Alexandra Soprano”, “Draumur” and “You and Only You”, which contains Alexandra‘s original compositions and adaptations. In 2007, she founded Alexandra´s Singing School which led to the foundation of the girlchoir Icelandic Dream Voices the year after, which has participated in various international projects.
For reasons pertaining to space, an exhaustive account of Alexandra´s achievements and awards is unattainable without mere enumerations and bullets and numberings, but Alexandra has performed in many prestigious international music and singing festivals around Europe, in 2013 she was selected from 400 candidates to perform at the Contemporary Opera Center at The International Contemporary Opera Festival in New York. This year, Alexandra was chosen as one of the top 10 outstanding young Icelanders, rewarded by the president of Iceland for her work and achievements in the field of culture.
Alexandra holds an M.Mus. in Innovative Music Creation from The Iceland Academy of the Arts, an M.Ed. from The University of Educational Management in Kiev, has taken Master Classes with Hanno Blaschke and Katia Ricciarelli at opera academies in Germany and Italy, respectively.
