Elin Gunnlausdottir (1965) began her musical studies at the age of nine with the piano. She later studied at the Reykjavík College of Music where she graduated with a Diploma in Music Education in 1987 and a Diploma in Composition in 1993. Her teachers in composition were Thorkell Sigurbjornsson, Hrodmar Ingi Sigurbjornsson and Gudmundur Hafsteinsson. Postgraduate studies took her to the Netherlands where she studied for two years composition with Theo Loevendie and Diderik Wagenaar at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague and graduated in 1998.
Currently living in Selfoss, a small village east of Reykjavik. Elin Gunnlaugsdottir has been active as a composer and a music teacher. She has composed about 50 works; solo works, chamber works and choir music. She has also written two bigger works for children, the ballet Englajol (2012) and the musical Bjort i sumarhusi (2015). Her works have been published on serveral CDs and been performed in Iceland but also in Scandinavia, Central Europe, N-America and Australia.
