Battle of the bands has been the main venue for young and upcoming bands in Iceland since 1982. The competition has four to five semi-final nights and one grand final-night. Up to 50 bands participate every year in great venues around the city, surrounded by professional staff and a friendly atmosphere.
The main goal of Battle of the bands is to make way for young and uprising musicians, giving them an opportunity to perform on a professional level and even get rewarded with prizes that include recording sessions, instruments etc. Throughout the years, Battle of the bands has proven to be a milestone for the bands that play and it is still a great venue for the ever growing Icelandic music scene.
Battle of the bands is for young people, aged 13-25 years.
Since 1982 aprox. 890 bands have participated in Battle of the bands in Iceland. Many of those bands have started a career, released albums, gone on tour and…made it! Bands like Mínus, Botnleðja (Silt), Maus, Jakobínarína, Agent Fresco are all amongst the winning bands and have all embarked on successful careers. The winners over the years are:
