Join us on a very special documentary journey into LA LA land when half of all Reykjavík dwelling musicians upped sticks and jumped over the big pond and into the welcoming arms of The L.A Phil for The Reykjavík Festival.
As you may recall us mentioning, maybe, a few times back in April, the L.A Phil created the very special Reykjavík Festival which was curated by Daníel Bjarnason and Esa-Pekka Salonen. The festival was designed to showcase the diverse, thriving and quite frankly abundant music scene happening within the fair city of Reykjavík.
Performances within the festival included sets from múm, amiina, Skúli Sverrisson & Ólöf Arnalds, JFDR and dj flugvél og geimskip. Special original compositions were commissioned from some of the biggest and brightest Icelandic contemporary music names including María Huld Sigfusdottir, Páll Ragnar Pállsson, Áskell Másson, Þuríður Jónsdóttir, Atli Ingólfsson and of course Daníel Bjarnason.
The entire choir from Schola Cantorum Reykjavík performed two very special shows.
Sigur Rós played three nights accompanied by The L.A Phil. Bedroom Community came to the party with their Whale Watching Tour followed by Jóhann Jóhannsson performing music from his latest album Orphée. There was actually a new story commissioned from the musical mouse, Maximus Musicus, to keep the children amused.
Re-live what was quite a remarkable journey for many of the Icelandic musicians who had the opportunity to shine on the world stage and create quite an impression with contemporary music lovers in LA.
