“Hello my name is Pan Thorarensen. I am a musician and co-founder of the Extreme Chill Festival, an annual electronic music festival in Iceland. As our next edition is just around the corner, I wanted to tell you little bit about the festival and what we have in store. We’ve been celebrating the Extreme Chill Festival for 5 years at Hellissandur, a village on the snæfellsnes peninsula, (quite a magical place), one year in Berlin (summer 2014) and the 7th anniversary (last year) in Vík í Mýrdal.
The Seeds of Extreme Chill where sown in August 2009, when my band Stereo Hypnosis threw a release concert at Hellissandur and surmised it would be the perfect place to assemble a few great electronic musicians and celebrate. A year later, we put on the first Extreme Chill Festival – Undir Jökli (“under the glacier”) on August 6-8, 2010. “Extreme Chill is the first pure electronica festival in Iceland” Our little festival has been slowly getting more popular every year since with The Guardian naming it” Europe’s most Picturesque festival location” in 2012.
This year Extreme Chill will occur on July 7-9 in Reykjavík (for first time), this one marks the festival’s 8th year anniversary. (We celebrated the 7th edition in Vík Í Mýrdal last year with the german pioneer Hans- Joachim Roedelius, with great success.
The idea to bring the seeds to Reykjavik came from the people. “Reykjavik need music festival like this over the summer time, specially in July. We have Secret Solstice in June but nothing is going on in the city in July”. .. Perhaps we are here to stay. Let see… We’ve got a truly amazing line-up in store for you this year, artists like: The Orb, Mixmaster Morris, Another Fine Day, Studnitzky, Yagya, Gyða Valtýsdóttir, Stereo Hypnosis, Jón Ólafsson & Futuregrapher, Jónas Sen, SiGRÚN, Tonik Ensemble, Mikael Lind, (and many more…. )
We Strive to keep Extreme Chill an affordable, accessible festival, and thus tickets for whole weekend are only 7,900 ISK. Do note that a limited amount Of them will for sale this year, so we recommend you get your tickets on time if You ́re interested in attending since our last editions have all sold out. “This will be a mysterious journey through electronic Reykjavik”
