Innipúkinn Festival :: Agent Fresco, Axel Flóvent, GANGLY + MORE!
July 26th, 2016 | IMX Inside Iceland
Next weekend is Verslunarmannahelgi (known in English as Merchants’ Weekend or Labor Day Weekend). Born out of a holiday for merchants, the long weekend—always the first in August—is now celebrated across the country with outdoor festivals, concerts and other events.
One such festival is Innipúkinn which translates to ‘inside devil’. Originally conceived to keep the people staying in Reykjavík entertained, whilst the rest of the city, traditionally, went away camping into the countryside. This year sees the 15th installment of the wildly popular event taking over two beloved local music venues: Húrra and Gaukurinn. This festival offers people the chance to check out the best in local, up and coming and established talent, and the added bonus? No camping!
Past performers have included: Of Monsters and Men, Ólafur Arnalds, Mugison, Sóley, Amiina, FM Beflast, Hjálmar, Hjaltalín, Lay Low, Trabant, Mínus, Mammút, Ólöf Arnalds, Seabear, Retro Stefson, Sin Fang, Valdimar, Samaris, Dikta, Megas, Raggi Bjarna, Ómar Ragnarsson, Magga Stína, Þú og ég and many, many more.
Check out this years line-up (below), if you are around, get involved! IMX will, of course, be on the ground at the festival taking pics on our Instagram and live snapping via IcelandMusic. We may even hand over the reigns to a few bands to show you around backstage of Innipúkinn… Who knows what might happen…
