New Music You Need To Hear :: AFK, Danimal, Singapore Sling, Védís Hervör & Fufanu
January 24th, 2017 | In The Spotlight
It’s a new year, so, we thought it prudent to share some new music with you. There are some real gems in this mixed bag of goodies. One thing all the songs have in common is that they all have really great videos. Dig in and treat yourself!
Danimal – People Like Me
Welcome to the world of Danimal, and his first single ever released into the world under this moniker. This is the project of singer/songwriter Daníel Jón, and he’s managed to make quite a splash not only with his dreamy guitar infused track, but the video is also to die for.
Danimal started out young, performing 16 years old at various bars in downtown Reykjavik. Now at 25 he is releasing his debut EP album in February 2017. The music has been described as a modest and melodic pop music that will make you either really sad or really happy.
Singapore Sling – Riffermania (KILL KILL KILL)
Singapore Sling formed in 2000 and are seen as one of the original purveyors of experimental psychedelia and rock and roll as we know it today – their influence touching nearly every fabric of the modern psych scene.
Singapore Sling are releasing their ninth LP, KILL KILL KILL (Songs about Nothing) on Fuzz Club Records next month and the first video from the album. The Lynch-esque video features various characters with close ties to the band including Icelandic bands Fufanu, Pink Street Boys and dj flugvél og geimskip.
AFK – Black
AFK aka Andri Fannar kind of popped up out of nowhere, and, turns out totally worth waiting for, even though, technically, we didn’t know we were waiting for it! Anyway, check out his new track released on Jan 13 called ‘Black’. He is releasing an EP shortly, so keep your eyes peeled as could be pretty sweet. This could well turn out to be an artist to watch. You heard it here first folks!
Védís Hervör – Blow My Mind
Védís enlisted her amazing grandparents for this wonderful video. ‘Blow My Mind’ infuses touches of soul, R&B and dance elements, it basically has everything you need for a perfect pop song.
Fufanu – Liability
Sometimes you have to let the band do the talking: “Liability is a song about our responsibility as a dot in a society. Without wanting to take a public stand with or against Brexit, the new President of USA or even just the recent parliament election in Iceland they all had one thing in common: Lack of votes by the younger generation. It’s truly sad that things are going the way they are, that people actually don’t care about their society because their life is going all right and they are numb towards the existence of the society.
Even if you don’t feel like you belong or have anything to say, there is always something you care about, just like in a party. There are some that like to be loud and be the center of it all, while some just feel more like having a good conversation and so on. All groups have something to say and should do, your liability towards society can make a change that lasts longer than the lifetime of a tree.” Kaktus, Fufanu.
