Hey you lot, it’s March already, can you believe it?!? Cripes! Spring is in the air.. well, in the rest of the southern hemisphere, certainly not here in Iceland yet where we are still battling minus temperatures and the odd bout of snow… Our spring will come, one day…
Luckily we have loads of cracking good tunes to keep us occupied and happy. So, we decided to grab a shopping bag and throw in an assortment of the newest tracks that have been released in the last few weeks… we have new music from Ásgeir, Sturla Atlas, Reykjavíkurdætur, Amabadama and Greta Salóme!
Lets start with one of Iceland’s favourite sons, Ásgeir! His new album Afterglow is due to be released on May 5. Check out his second single from the album; ‘Stardust’ with him singling in a soft falsetto, super dreamy stuff.
Next up we take a look at the latest track from Reykjavíkurdætur. ‘Láttu líkamann leiða’ is sung by Steinunn J and features Fever Dream. Literally translated to Let Your Body Lead, this is a single taken from their debut album RVKDTR, which is out now!
Sturla Atlas, the 101 boys have released their second mixtape called 101 Nights. The lyrics are sung in English, Icelandic references are made throughout, such as motorway routes and untranslatable Icelandic puns. ‘One Life’ features 18-year-old Icelandic Rapper, Aron Can and another track is named after Baltasar Kormákur, famous for directing 101 Reykjavik, an Icelandic rom-com from the Noughties. True fact: 101 is the postal code for the old town in Reykjavik.
Next up we delve into the world of pop, where Greta Salóme reigns supreme with her pop princess ways. Her latest single ‘My Blues’ melds a little bit of everything in the music pot. The music video for the song features Greta Salóme and Hafþór Júlíus, better known as The Mountain from Game of Thrones.
To finish up our mixed bag of new music, we end with the ever popular Icelandic reggae band Amabadama and their new single Ganga á Eftir þér! I’m telling you, Icelanders cannot get enough of Icelandic reggae, I guess everyone is just willing in the spring vibe!
