Paunkholm :: Kaflaskil
July 13th, 2017 | New Releases
The album Kaflaskil from the artist Paunkholm has been formally released on Vinyl. Kaflaskil is also available online at Spotify, cdbaby, tonlist.is and a lot of other music sites.
Paunkholm is a solo project from Franz Gunnarsson who has been active in the Icelandic music scene for quite many years. He is best known for his work with his bands Ensími and Dr. Spock but has been around the block and worked with a lot of artists through his career.
Kaflaskil assembles a stellar cast of musicians and singers who have worked with Franz on stage or in the studio at one point or another. All the music & words (apart from one lyric) is composed and written by Paunkholm.
The album theme is a personal showdown of Paunkholm´s past battling with substance abuse. The songs are written over an extended period during intoxication and after sobering up and discovering life again.
The music does not rhyme with the other work Franz does with his bands which is mainly rock. On Kaflaskil you hear a more mellow tone, even pop at times. The music has been compared to Jeff Buckley with a hint of Beatles thrown in the mix.
Paunkholm will not do a lot of live performing supporting Kaflaskil so interested listeners should grab the chance when available. Paunkholm will do a formal release concert in the fall with all album participant but until then you can check him out at Secret Solstice festival in June, Piknik concert series at the Nordic House in July and Rock in Hafnarfjordur in August.
