Prins Póló are a legendary band that everyone of all ages loves to get their grooves on to. They can be found on stages at Iceland Airwaves, as well as barns and local village halls all around the country. To put it mildly, they are beloved.
Their new video is a very unique piece of art. It is the final submission from gifted visual artist Ísak Óli who also happens to have Autism.
Ísak worked with the band in order to produce the video according to his vision.
We spoke to Svavar from Prins Póló about the collaboration: “We have worked with Ísak before when we had his works on exhibition in Havarí when the store/gallery was in Austurstræti. We also have several works by him on our walls back home. Ísak is a unique artist and character and his collaboration with Margrét and Lee who directed the video with him was beautiful. We have worked with Margrét before on the List án Landamæra festival. That was a great honor for us and unforgettable experience.”
The school that Ísak attends operates a diploma department of art for people with intellectual disabilities. This is a two-year program in which students are given the opportunity to study art and develop their talents in a professional learning environment. Isaac is one of twelve students diploma department as well as the first group enrolled in the league.
“The program is focused on productive work procedures and an array of possibilities in technology, materials and methods. As well as strengthening students receive increased public awareness of the visual arts, art history and contemporary art. With technical training and the promotion of different art forms, students have the opportunity to find their own personal way of independent creation, “says department head Margrét M. Norðdahl.
pretty sure you’d agree that these types of collaboration are pretty excellent.
