Sturla Atlas :: IMX INTERVIEW
November 15th, 2016 | In The Spotlight
Sturla Atlas are the 101 boys (downtown postcode of Reykjavík). They burst onto the scene in a flurry pink mopeds, singing about San Francisco, selling their own special apparel and generally making a hge impact on the local scene. Check out their mixtapes here.
i-D can’t get enough of them “there’s no denying they’re one of the coolest things in the land of ice and fire”. Recently Clash did a big interview with them, so they are super hot property right now.
Even though Mr Sturla Atlas is sick of interviews, that didn’t stop us tracking him down and asking him some more inane questions, ah the life of a pop star!
IMX: You recently opened up for Justin Beiber for his Icelandic Shows. How did it feel playing to so many people on such a huge stage? Did you hang out with Beiber? Tell us about the whole experience.
Sturla Atlas: Opening up for Bieber was definitely one of our biggest moments yet. It felt amazing to perform for such a large crowd. Obviously it would have been cool to hang out with Bieber but that didn’t happen. Overall it was really great.
IMX: You’ve been getting a lot of international press, is it going to your head?
Sturla Atlas: No – it’s just great that people from all over enjoy our music and concept.
IMX: You played your first gig outside Iceland in London the other day, how did that go?
Sturla Atlas: It went very well, we did 2 shows and I liked them both. It was a good vibe.
IMX: Tell us about the 101 boys merch, hows that all going? Who does the designing?
Sturla Atlas: It’s going good, at least a lot of people are buying it when we drop some items. To this date it’s been all pop-up stores but I guess we’ll open a web store soon. Graphic designer Siggi Odds does the designing along with Kjartan Hreinsson based on concepts by them and the rest of us.
IMX: How was Airwaves?
Sturla Atlas: It was great, we did a lot of good shows and I met lots of interesting people.
IMX: When can we expect your 3rd mixtape to be released?
Sturla Atlas: It’ll soon be a new year and we all need to start that off right.
IMX: Tell us something about the band that no-one would know or expect.
Sturla Atlas: We started out in 2015 when we decided to do a mixtape for our friends birthday. It turned out to be rather good.
Thanks Sturla Atlas, can’t wait for the new tunes!
