Úlfur Eldjárn :: The Aristókrasía Project
April 12th, 2017 | New Releases
Úlfur Eldjárn releases The Aristókrasía Project – a concept album about space travel, technology and lost utopias.
Icelandic composer and electronic musician Úlfur Eldjárn has released his solo album called ‘The Aristókrasía Project.’ It’s a retro-futuristic concept album about space travel, technology, A.I., lost utopias and the future of mankind. It includes songs about Soviet astronaut Yuri Gagarin, NASA’s Voyager mission and the history of science.
The album brings together the aesthetics of early synth pop and cinematic string arrangements.
The record’s seven tracks are created out of layers of analog synths and vocoder melodies, topped with beautiful heartfelt strings, delivered by a string quartet that includes performers from Björk albums and the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra. On top of everything comes the distinct drum performance of Samuli Kosminen (Múm, Jónsi, Hauschka) who uses modified drums and scrapyard percussion to create his uniqe electronic sounding but organically played beats.
Úlfur is known for his soundtrack work and often experimental compositions and he’s also a member of the Icelandic synth cult band Apparat Organ Quartet.
