Steed Lord was born on the 8th of February in 2006 in Reykjavik, Iceland. It was on that day that KALI received a house beat from DEMO as a birthday present. That beat later turned into the group's first song "You" and a week later, the next track "Dirty Mutha" was born on a dark and sleepless night. In the two years that followed, they worked very hard writing and recording new music as well as touring all over Europe. They were award the "Get Physical" Award for best new song by the Swedish street-wear brand, WeSC. This was the beginning of a very important relationship with the brand for Steed Lord. The group is now sponsored by WeSC and is a very active member of their WeActivist program. Additionally, Steed Lord was commissioned to design a line for the retail giant H&M. The line was a smash hit and sold out in over 40 countries worldwide.
Debut Album: Truth Serum (2008):
In December of 2008, Steed Lord finally released their debut full-length album Truth Serum. This album was years in the making. It features 15 tracks of what Steed Lord likes to call "100% pure homemade Icelandic electro." It is an album filled with grimy synth, smashing drums, sci-fi samples, heavy vocoding, catchy melodies, and a gangsta swagger.
Move to Los Angeles (August 2009):
In August of 2009, the three members of Steed Lord (KALI aka Svala Bjorgvinsdottir, M.E.G.A. aka Einar Egilsson, and DEMO aka Edvard Egilsson) decided to make a big jump and move out to Los Angeles to further pursue breaking Steed Lord in America and taking it to the next level.
Remix Album: The Truth Serum Remix Project (2009)
In November of 2009, a remix album that was months in the making was finally released. This remix album, entitled The Truth Serum Remix Project, is a remixed version of their debut full-length, Truth Serum. This project involved a star-studded roster of international talent (such as Crookers, Jack Beats Tommie Sunshine, Klever, Sharkslayer, Don Rimini, Russ Chimes, Hot Pink Delorean, Nic Sarno, and LAZRtag) and ended up evolving into an album with 22 remixes. This project was truly a labor of love as all of the artists contributed their remixes because of the love and support they have for what Steed Lord is doing. This remix album was picked up for international release by Toronto-based Last Gang Labels, one of the most important independent dance distributors in North America. The remix album has received extremely positive reviews and has been hailed as one of the top remix albums ever.
Heart II Heart EP (2010)
Steed Lord is currently in the process of finishing up their next release, which is the Heart II Heart EP. They have been recording in Los Angeles at the Grand Royal Studios (former Beastie Boys studio and west-coast headquarters). This EP marks a level of growth and maturity in the development of their sound. In the spirit of true artistic independence, this EP will be coming out on their own New Crack City Records label. The full EP will be released in May with singles coming out in advance of the full release in March and April. The first single is Bed Of Needles and it will be available exclusively on Beatport on March 16th and then on all other digital retailers on April 13th the release will feature remixes from SonicC, AudioFun, and AKS & Syndaesia.
Beyond the remix album where Steed Lord had other artists remixing their original tracks, Steed Lord has produced remixes for other artists. Recently, Steed Lord has produced remixes for Passion Pit (Columbia), The Willowz (Dim Mak), and Sometime (Itsuka). Additionally, Steed Lord has collaborated with other artists to create new original songs. They wrote and contributed vocals on a track entitled "Transilvania" with Crookers for Crookers' Tons of Friends album which just recently came out on Southern Fried Records. Steed Lord also contributed vocals on a track entitled "Cherry" with Mustard Pimp for an EP that they are releasing on Steve Aoki's imprint, Dim Mak. There are many more collaborations in the pipeline including one with South Rakkas Crew, a production outfit that was responsible for some of the most successful American pop hits in the '90s and early 2000s (such Britney Spears, N*Sync, and The Backstreet Boys). This collaboration is going to be released on Adam Freeland's label, Marine Parade, at some point in the Spring.
After moving out to Los Angeles, Steed Lord did not waste anytime and hit the road just weeks after setting up their new American headquarters. The group went on tour in September and October performing as headliners at clubs across America and Canada. They performed in places such as New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Florida, Texas, Winnipeg, and Calgary. After finishing up this headlining tour, they were asked by the internationally-acclaimed electronic artist, Peaches, to open up for her on a run of dates in California. Steed Lord supported Peaches on sold-out shows throughout October and November including a date with Live Nation at one of the oldest and most historic venues in Los Angeles, the 2500-person capacity Wiltern Theatre. In addition to their touring in North America, Steed Lord also ventured on a very successful European tour which was organized by Coda, one of the top UK booking agencies. They performed headlining shows in Italy, Denmark, France, Germany, and the UK over a two-week period. This tour garnered the group a slew of press, both online and print. The European promoters from this tour have been anxiously awaiting the next opportunity that they will get to host Steed Lord for a concert again.
In February of 2010, Steed Lord signed with AM Only for their bookings in North America and South America. This is a very big accomplishment and something to be proud of because AM Only is the premier electronic booking agency in America. This company has an impressive roster of talent which includes some of the biggest names in the dance music world such as ATB, Benny Benassi, Carl Cox, Crookers, David Guetta, Sneaky Sound System, Tiesto, and Will.i.am (of the Black Eyed Peas).
