Jóhann Jóhannsson Nominated In World Soundtrack Awards
August 28th, 2017 | News
The World Soundtrack Awards are held in Gent, Belgium Oct. 17 through 19.
The announced nominees are listed below:
Best Film Composer of the Year
Nicholas Britell: “Moonlight”
Justin Hurwitz: “La La Land”
Jóhann Jóhannsson: “Arrival”
Mica Levi: “Jackie,” “Marjorie Prime”
Dustin O’Halloran: “Lion” (co-composer Hauschka), “In the Shadow of Iris” (co-composer Adam Wiltzie)
Jóhann is no stranger to fancy nominations. He has been nominated twice within the Oscars, for “The Theory of Everything” and “Sicario.” His original contributions to “Arrival” are noteworthy as part of an increased blurring of the line between music and sound design in film music. For “Arrival,” he told Variety in an interview that he recorded to a 16-track tape loop for a vaguely analog quality, capturing acoustic sounds from cello, piano, and wind instruments, along with vocals.
What better way to celebrate this awesome achievement than by enjoying this excellent session with Jóhann and the American Contemporary Music Ensemble performing live in the KEXP studio. Recorded April 20, 2017.
