Sveinsson’s Symphony To Be Played At Carnegie Hall

Sveinsson’s Symphony To Be Played At Carnegie Hall

November 8th, 2011 | News

Voting is complete on Carnegie Hall’s 2014 Spring For Music schedule – and the winning programme features work by Icelandic composer Atli Heimir Sveinsson.

Sveinsson’s Symphony Number 2 – described as "perhaps the most epic Icelandic work for orchestra and chorus" – will be performed by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. According to Spring For Music, Winnipeg "has the largest population of Icelandic residents outside of Iceland, so the choice was a natural one."

The programme also includes Canadian composer Andrew Balfour and his work Wa Wa Tey Wak (Northern Lights), which features indigenous chant and percussion, and Vincent Ho’s The Shaman, a percussion concerto composed for Dame Evelyn Glennie, who will play the piece at this concert.

Tickets are $25 – a snip!

Here is a taste of Atli’s beautiful music, for those of you unfamiliar with his oeuvre…
