Travel Grants

Travel grants are awarded every two months. Application deadlines are: February 1st, April 1st, June 1st, August 1st, October 1st, and December 1st.

Grants are available for purposes such as concerts and tours, delegation participation, Showcase festivals and premieres of works by composers.

There is no requirement for a minimum number of performances; the allocation committee evaluates the value and scope of each project in its entirety and in relation to the fund's objectives.

Applications can cover up to 8 individuals at a time, with a maximum grant of 600,000 ISK for projects within Europe and 800,000 ISK for projects outside Europe.

There is no limit on the number of travel grants an applicant can receive within a one-year period.

Grants are not awarded for recording sessions abroad.

Assessment of Applications

The travel grant allocation committee evaluates applications based on the department's objectives and the general assessment criteria of The Music Fund:

40% – The Project
The committee assesses whether the project is well-defined, engaging, and executed with professionalism and ambition.

20% – Applicant and Participants
The committee evaluates the likelihood of the applicant and participants achieving their stated goals, based on their professional and artistic background.

40% – Budget
The committee assesses whether the budget is realistic and clearly demonstrates the project's financial need.

The applicant is the person responsible for the application. It can be an individual or company on behalf of the musicians. In the event of a grant, the applicant will receive the grant to the account listed in this form.

If your application is successful, the amount will be transferred to this account. Note that the details given should match the applicants' other details.

Bibliography of the artist/applicant, career highlights and relevant milestones.

Links to the websites and social media/services related to the project.

Reason for travel*

Describe the purpose of the travel. When a concert tour, state the number of concerts, date, city and venue.

You can apply for a manager, agent, a sound engineer and others who are necessary for a live performance. Should they be outside the core group of performers, please explain the rationale.

Travel grants are a maximum of ISK 75.000 kr. per person for travel within Europe and ISK 100.000 for trips outside Europe.

Outline the rationale behind traveling to this market. Is there measurable demand for example on streaming services or social media? Are there partners or opportunities for collaboration in the area?

The application must meet all the requirements to be valid. A valid application does not guarantee allocation from the fund.

Add a link to your budget, make sure to have open access to a Dropbox or a Google Drive spreadsheet.

Travel grants are not allocated to applicants who have their travel costs paid for by other parties, for example a booker or the concert organiser. Note to add your own contribution in the budget.
